Air Force taps Hickam for No. 1 enlisted chief
Hawaii's most senior enlisted airman in the Pacific will become the top enlisted leader for the U.S. Air Force.
Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Rodney J. McKinley, now the command chief master sergeant for Pacific Air Forces, will become the 15th chief master sergeant of the Air Force on July 1. He joined the Air Force in 1974, took a break in service in 1977, attended college, and re-entered the Air Force in 1982. He has been the command chief master sergeant at the 86th Airlift Wing at Ramstein Air Base, Germany; 1st Fighter Wing at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia; the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing at Al Udeid in Qatar and 11th Air Force at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.
He will serve as a personal adviser to the Air Force chief of staff and secretary of the Air Force on all issues regarding the welfare, readiness, morale, proper utilization, and progress of Air Force members and their families.

At Hickam Air Force Base, the Air Force's 535th Airlift Squadron and Hawaii Air Guard's 204th Airlift Squadron have received their fifth C-17 Globemaster cargo jet capable of rapid strategic delivery of troops and all types of cargo to any base. The combined active duty and Air National Guard squadrons are slated to get eight Globemasters.
