Vulcans qualify for national tennis tournament
Host Hawaii-Hilo beat UC San Diego 5-4 yesterday in the second round of a NCAA Division II regional to qualify for the nationals in Kansas City, Mo., next week.
Mai Fujii and Tiana Lum-Tucker captured matches in both singles and doubles for the Vulcans.
» Hawaii Pacific beat Cal Poly Pomona 5-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships tennis tournament at Central Oahu Regional Park yesterday.
Lauren Shin and Josefine Paulie led the way for the Sea Warriors, winning in both singles and doubles matches.

The tournament teams are trying for a spot in the national in Kansas City, Mo.
Adachi, Brakling are HPU's top scholar-athletes
Hawaii Pacific honored Akihide Adachi and Flavia Brakling as its 2005-06 male and female scholar-athletes of the year at its athletic awards banquet at the Radisson Prince Kuhio Hotel Wednesday night.
Adachi, a soccer player from Hyogo, Japan, is a striker and a three-time All-Star in the Men's Island Soccer Organization. He guided the HPU White team over the HPU Green squad for the MISO championship last fall. He holds a 3.95 grade-point average.
Brakling, who also won the award last year, capped her senior season on the volleyball court by leading the Sea Warriors to a 24-3 record and a third straight Pacific West Conference title. The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native was an AVCA All-America second-team pick. She carries a 3.49 GPA.
Washington State's McAngus is player of week
Former Kamehameha baseball standout Zach McAngus was picked as the Pac-10 player of the week. The senior designated hitter and right fielder for Washington State was 7-for-12 (.583) with two doubles, a homer and six runs scored last week to help the Cougars go 3-1.
Wahine volleyball ticket renewal deadline today
The deadline to renew Hawaii women's volleyball season tickets is today.
Fans can renew one of four ways: online at www.etickethawaii.com, by faxing the invoice with credit card payment to 956-3403, by mail with a May 5 postmark to UH Athletic Ticket Office, 1337 Lower Campus Road, Honolulu, HI, 96822, or by dropping off invoices and payment to the Stan Sheriff Center ticket office today.
