Hula Bowl names new executive director

The Hula Bowl All-Star Classic named Joe Dan Rogers as new executive director yesterday.

Rogers assumes leadership of the storied college football all-star game, now in its second year back on Oahu.

Rogers says he will focus on executing owner Nick Logan's commitment to elevate the participation and attendance to the highest level.

"We are pleased to have been able to secure Joe Dan for this vital role," Logan said. "His experience, character and business acumen solidify the plan that this bowl needs to elevate its position among the other bowl games."

Rogers played football for Oklahoma and held coaching and administrative duties at TCU and Alabama. Most recently, he was an evaluator with scouting duties for the Atlanta Falcons.

Hamamoto tied for lead at WAC tournament

Hawaii's Jarret Hamamoto is tied for the lead after two rounds of the Western Athletic Conference's championship golf tournament.

Hamamoto shot a 3-under 68 and moved into a tie with New Mexico State's Matt Edwards at 1-under 141.

Hawaii is in fourth place, seven shots behind first-place NMSU.

» The Hawaii-Hilo golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of the Northwest/West Super Regional at Phoenix.

Kevin Shimomura of the Vulcans is in 24th place, individually, at 6-over 148 after shooting 1-over 72 yesterday.

Cal State Bakersfield leads the team competition at 568. UH-Hilo is 31 strokes behind.
