CHECKING IT OUT IN WAIAUDENNIS ODA / DODA@STARBULLETIN.COM
Chess came to life at Waiau Elementary School yesterday as a giant chessboard with students as game pieces culminated the activities of Waiau's first-ever chess club. Other students on a second-floor balcony played the match. Daniel Tugi, 10, who played the king, knew the end was near as only he and two pawns were left. On the next move, he was checkmated.
