Seven Isle plans to build new shopping center in Hilo
The 82,000-square-foot property is to be called the Pali Uli MarketPlace
HILO » Seven Isle Properties LLC will build an 82,000-square-foot shopping center on eight acres of former plant nursery land on Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo, company President James E. Browne announced yesterday.
Located on the site of the former Hirose Nursery, the center will add to a growing commercial district along Kanoelehua that already includes Puainako Town Center, diagonally across the street, and further toward the center of Hilo includes KTA Superstores, Prince Kuhio Plaza Shopping Mall and an adjoining complex anchored by Wal-Mart.
The new center, to be called Pali Uli MarketPlace, will have spaces for about 25 retail businesses, Browne said. The business are expected to be restaurants, food stores and specialty retail stores.
The two largest retail spaces will be about 20,000 square feet each. Leasing by Ala Kai Realty Inc. is under way, but no tenants were immediately named.
Construction is expected to begin next year, with build-out by tenants completed in 2008.
"We are adopting a Hawaiian plantation-style set amid pathways of lush botanical landscaping to reflect the region's heritage," Browne said.
Browne is a resident of Hawaiian Paradise Park, about 15 miles south of the project site. His previous experience includes development and management of the Los Angeles branch of a commercial construction company and developing and managing budgets for construction, maintenance, and production at Sony Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox.
