Raiders' Marciel 1-hits Monarchs
Iolani's Wally Marciel fired a one-hitter and struck out 10 to lead the No. 2-ranked Raiders over Damien 10-0 yesterday in Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball at Ala Wai Field.
Brett Hasegawa's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth gave Iolani a 10-run lead and the mercy-rule victory.
Chris Johnson hit a solo homer and drove in two runs for the Raiders, who had 10 hits against Damien pitchers Duncan Ebert and Jonathan Awa.
Kaimana Balanon had the Monarchs' only hit -- a double to start the second inning.
Iolani's Brennan Nacario and Travis Nishioka also helped the attack with two his each. Nishioka had a double and Nacario drove in two runs.
The victory gave the Raiders a 1 1/2-game lead over Mid-Pacific and two-time defending state champion Punahou (5-2) in the ILH standings.
