Spartans run into No. 1 Raiders

Sophomore Jamie Smith led three Raiders in double figures with 19 points as No. 1 Iolani won its second straight game to open the season, routing visiting Maryknoll 53-31 in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls basketball game last night.

Hennasea-Sue Tokumura nailed two 3-pointers and added 12 points for the Raiders, who raced out to a 33-15 halftime lead.

Keilyn Fujioka also had 10 points for the Raiders, while Nicole Fu and Kristen Canencia each scored nine points to lead Maryknoll.

Lindsay Cartwright posted 14 points to help the Chargers get their third victory of the season with a win against the Golden Hawks.

The Chargers jumped out to a 17-2 first-quarter lead, led by Cartwright's six points.

Noelani Napuelua-Saole scored a team-high 12 points in the loss.

Capri Holiona scored nine of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as Na Alii held off a tough Surfriders comeback.

After being outscored 22-4 in the first quarter, Kailua came back to tie the score at 41 with under 4 minutes to go, but missed costly free throws down the stretch.

Zsalei Kamaka had 13 points to lead Kailua.

Joyce Baptista scored six of her nine points in the fourth quarter as the Marauders outscored the Bulldogs 16-10 over the final 8 minutes to come from behind for the victory.

Amanda Misa's 11 points led Waipahu, while Waialua's Chelsey Ramirez poured in a team-high nine points.
