HPU wins fourth straight national championship

The Hawaii Pacific co-ed cheer team took first place for the fourth consecutive year at the National Cheerleaders Association Chick-fil-A Collegiate Championships Friday in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Sea Warrior small co-ed cheer team, cheerleading stunt group, and the dance team also won their events. The HPU all-girl cheerleading team placed third.

The tournament is the largest of its kind in the world, featuring teams from the United States, Mexico, Japan and Canada.

Sea Warriors sweep Hilo in baseball

Hawaii Pacific pitcher Mario Ramirez limited Hawaii-Hilo to five hits in Hilo yesterday, leading to a sweep of a doubleheader by the NCAA Division II school.

The Sea Warriors beat the Vulcans 1-0 in the first game behind Ramirez and came back to win the second game 5-4.

The teams meet again tomorrow at Wong Stadium.

Rainbow Wahine defeat Sea Warriors

The University of Hawaii women's tennis team won its second straight match with a 5-2 win over Hawaii Pacific at the UH Tennis Complex on Friday.

The Rainbow Wahine (3-16-1) got singles wins from Chloe Bihag, Jacqui Williams, Samantha Cappella, and Julia Sandborn. Bihag outlasted Elena Hudzikova on the No. 2 court, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

On the No. 1 court, HPU's Anastasia Ageychik handled UH's Kana Aikawa, 6-0, 6-4. Hawaii Pacific fell to 8-8.

Leahey, Reinebold, Reardon to speak at QB Club

KHON sports director Kanoa Leahey, University of Hawaii defensive line coach Jeff Reinebold and Star-Bulletin sports writer Dave Reardon are the featured guest speakers at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club.

The program starts at noon following an 11:30 a.m. luncheon at the Pagoda Hotel Ballroom. The public is invited.

Hawaii sits in 10th in golf tournament

Hawaii's Dale Gammie shot a 5-over 76 and was the low Rainbow Wahine golfer yesterday in the first round of the Peg Barnard California Collegiate at Stanford, Calif.

Hawaii currently sits in 10th place with a 29-over 313, 15 shots behind leader Southern California. Gammie's round was good for 19th place individually, while the other four Rainbow Wahine golfers, Carolina Perez, Xyra Suyetsugu, Tara Chappell, and Lisa Kajihara, are all tied for 45th after shooting 79.

Today's final round begins at 6 a.m.
