Kalani High hires Oshiro as football coach
Glenn Oshiro is Kalani High's new football coach, athletic director Gregory Van Cantfort said yesterday.
Oshiro is a 21-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department. He's a 1979 Maryknoll graduate and a former Pac-Five player, and he has 23 years of coaching experience.
Oshiro was once the running backs coach under Wendell Look at Iolani and was the head coach of the intermediate program at Pac-Five and Mid-Pacific in recent years.
"Oshiro is an excellent fit for a very challenging program," Van Cantfort said in a press release. "He is bringing with him a complete package in (trying to revamp) Kalani's football program. Oshiro will bring a much-needed disciplinary approach both behaviorally and tactically to the football team."
Oshiro takes over for Greg Taguchi, who is returning to school. Taguchi coached the Falcons from 1994 to 1998 and again from 2003 to 2005. Kalani went 0-8 last year.
