Reaves is tops in PacWest

Senior guard Chris Reaves, who helped lead Chaminade to the conference title and its first appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament, was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year yesterday.

Reaves averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists for the Silverswords (19-9, 9-3 PacWest), who lost in the second round of the regional tournament. Joining Reaves on the first team were teammate Zach Whiting, Brigham Young-Hawaii's Austin Smylie, Justin Griffin of Hawaii-Hilo and Hawaii Pacific's Donnell Dobbins.

Matt Mahar, in his first season at Chaminade, was named Coach of the Year.

The Freshman of the Year award went to Brigham Young-Hawaii's Wu Tai-hao, a 6-foot-8 forward who averaged 8.9 points while shooting 56 percent from the field.
