RAINBOW WARRIOR VOLLEYBALL
Warriors wallop the Tigers for 13th straight triumph
STOCKTON, Calif. » Halfway there.
The third-ranked Hawaii men's volleyball team picked up its second win of the four-match Northern California road trip last night, doing it in very quick, very efficient and very impressive fashion.
Behind Lauri Hakala's 16 kills, a team hitting percentage of .442 and 14.5 blocks, the Warriors swept No. 15 Pacific 30-21, 30-21, 30-19 at the Spanos Center. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match lasted just 75 minutes.

The victory extended Hawaii's winning streak to 13 and improved the Warriors' records to 17-4 overall and 13-3 MPSF. The Tigers, losing to Hawaii for the 19th consecutive time, fell to 7-15 and 5-11.
Joining Hakala in double-figure kills were Jose Delgado (11) and Matt Carere (10). UOP's Brian Adamson finished with 25 of his team's 41 kills, the only Tiger in double figures.
The Warriors drive to Palo Alto today to prepare for their matches tomorrow and Thursday against struggling Stanford (4-18, 2-14).
"We need to come ready to play them," Wilton said of the matches against the Cardinal. "Teams seem to play well at home and we need to continue to meet that challenge.
"I thought we came ready to play tonight. Yes, it was quick and efficient."
Hawaii middle Dio Dante was the most efficient, putting down all five of his swings to hit 1.000. Hakala also had no errors in his 25 attempts, hitting .600.
For the second match in a row, the Warrior middles didn't see many sets, with Dante and Mauli'a La Barre having a combined 11 attacks. But the pair came up huge at the net, with La Barre in on eight blocks and Dante six.
In Saturday's sweep, Hawaii outblocked Pacific 11.5-8. Last night the margin was 14.5-3, one improvement Wilton liked.
"We certainly blocked a lot more balls tonight," Wilton said. "There was a whole lot of blocking going on in those first two games (11 blocks in Games 1 and 2).
"And I thought Brian (setter Beckwith) did a nice job getting the right sets to the right people at the right time."
After the Warriors dominated the first two games, UOP coach Joe Wortmann revamped his lineup. Libero Garrett Morales came in to set, replacing the erratic Mitch Hazelett; outside hitter Andreas Baboulidis moved to libero; and Matt Cornell replaced Baboulidis on the outside.
The Tigers found success early, leading 12-10 before the Warriors found their rhythm. Hawaii took the lead for good at 14-13 on a kill by Dante then used five aces -- one each by Dante, Beckwith, Carere, Hakala and Delgado -- to run away.
Hawaii closed it out on a 6-0 run. Dante accounted for the final three points, putting down a kill and twice teaming with Beckwith to stuff Pekka Seppanen.
"It took us a little while to get a feel for their new setter, his tendencies," said UH libero Alfred Reft, who came up with seven of the team's 30 digs. "But we didn't have to change much. The guys up front had good mental discipline.
"It was very businesslike tonight, not many long rallies, and it went really fast. There's still a few glitches to work out but I thought it was a pretty good performance from everyone."
