Students honor photographer

Students at Brigham Young University Hawaii pay tribute to surf photographer Jon Mozo with a 10K run on Saturday.

Mozo, a former BYUH student, died while taking photographs at Pipeline on Feb. 9, 2005.

The Jon Mozo 10K Run will benefit a fund at the school to support students interested in setting up small businesses.

The run will begin at 7 a.m. at Turtle Bay Resort. Register at Active.com or call 341-5230.

Miss Hawaii USA goes national

Miss Hawaii USA Radasha Hoohuli heads for the national pageant in Baltimore this weekend. A last-minute fundraiser will be held for her from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Rumours nightclub at the Ala Moana Hotel.

Tickets are $15 at the door and include entertainment and pupus.

The Miss USA pageant will be held April 21, hosted by "Access Hollywood's" Nancy O'Dell and "Dancing with the Stars'" second-season winner, Drew Lachey.

The winner competes in the Miss Universe competition.

Hoohuli, 26, is the daughter of Wayne and Hoku Hoohuli of Nanakuli, a graduate of Kamehameha Schools. She is a speech communications major at Hawaii Pacific University and plans to become an optometrist.

Singers sought for opera study

Hawaii Opera Theatre is looking for young singers interested in a year-long training program to include study with opera professionals and performance opportunities.

Auditions will be held April 18, beginning at 4 p.m. in Hawaii Opera Theatre's rehearsal hall.

Participants need to prepare three arias and have the selections memorized; a copy of the selections in a three-ring binder for the pianist; and a résumé that includes a head shot.
