Hikers help on Kauai
The High School Hikers Oahu hiking club for high school students will be on Kauai through March 30 for service projects and hiking excursions to learn about the island's environment, culture and history.
On Kauai's North Shore, club members will visit the National Botanical Gardens in Haena, where they will help to clear non-native plant species and repair fences recently broken by the winter rains. In Kokee, members will study rare flora and fauna at Alakai Swamp.
The High School Hikers Club is an all-volunteer school-sponsored extracurricular activity offered at Radford, Campbell, Moanalua, Kalaheo and Farrington high schools. The club is an entity of the Sierra Club of Hawaii. Students raise money to pay for their participation in various hiking excursions.
"The informal motto of the High School Hikers is 'Malama I ke aina' or 'care for the land,' " said Bob Keane, a retired Leilehua High School teacher who helped to create the club. "The hiking experience offers high school students an opportunity to interact with nature, learn about pertinent Native Hawaiian protocol, and understand their one responsibility when it comes to stewardship."

The Four Seasons Resort Maui has added a "Tapas" Spa Treatment Menu to its roster of poolside amenities. The addition means you don't have to step out of the sun or leave the poolside to enjoy spa treatments.
The menu features smaller versions of full treatments offered at the Wailea resort. The 20-, 30- and 40-minute head, neck, shoulder, scalp and foot massages can be enjoyed separately or combined. Priced respectively at $65, $85 and $100 per increments, treatments include cool, sliced cucumbers and chilled towels to cover eyes, and an aromatherapy spritz option.
Guests can sign up for a treatment with a pool attendant for a spontaneous treatment, without committing to a booking in The Spa.
The treatments are available daily poolside from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The experience includes complimentary use of shade cabanas and casabellas, chaise lounges, cool Evian spritzes, chilled face towels and fruit kebobs, wireless computer access, and all-day food and beverage service.
For information, call the resort at (808)-874-8000, Four Seasons central reservations at (800)-332-3442, or visit www.fourseasons.com/maui.
