"Geckos & Other Guests"
by Gabriela Taylor
(iUniverse, 2005, $15.95)
The author chronicles her adventures running a bed-and-breakfast on Kauai, from surviving Hurricane Iniki to trapping wild chickens that were keeping her guests awake. The book takes the form of scattered short stories on the creatures and characters she encounters, not to mention the work and the creative mind it takes to be an innkeeper.
"The Best of Hawai'i Wedding Book"
by Tammy Ash Perkins
(Inner Ocean Publishing, 2006, $16.95)
Perkins, who founded First Class Weddings in 1994, is well suited to survey all the resources available for getting hitched in Hawaii. Her guidebook covers all the basics (state marriage license requirements, how to plan around island weather) and a highly detailed listing of places to hold the service and reception. Florists, photographers and musicians are also covered, and to cap it off: help planning a honeymoon in paradise.
