Hoppock shuts down Wahine in softball
Jessica Hoppock limited Hawaii to two hits and did not allow a run as Okalahoma State beat Hawaii 5-0 in the eighth game of the Hawaii Invitational last night.
Kim Kaye led the attack for the Cowgirls, hitting a home run and driving in three runs. Jessica Morton took the abuse for the Wahine, allowing three runs in one inning of relief of starting pitcher Courtney Baughman.
Wahine tennis team loses close one to Wyoming
The Hawaii women's tennis team nearly earned its first win of the season yesterday, sweeping the doubles matches but losing to Wyoming 4-3 at the UH Tennis Complex.
Erin Katayama and Samanta Cappella earned wins for UH in singles. The Wahine are winless in 14 matches this season.
Vercruyssen to bounce with the best
Honolulu's Nani Vercruyssen was named to the U.S. Trampoline team for the Pacific Alliance Championships yesterday.
Vercruyssen was the U.S. junior champion last year and won gold medals in a pair of international events.
The Pacific Alliance Championships will be held April 13-15 in Honolulu.
Mackey gets second All-American award
Hawaii swimmer Nicole Mackey finished in fourth place in the 100-backstroke at the NCAA Championships at Athens, Ga., yesterday, earning All-American honors.
Hawaii divers QiongJie Juang and Rui Wang finished fifth and sixth in the 3-meter springboard finals yesterday. UH's Megan Farrow placed 10th.
Hawaii is in 12th place with 67 points after two days of the event, trailing Georgia by 271 points.
Wichmann third in heptathlon
Hawaii sophomore Annett Wichmann finished third in the heptathlon at the Northridge Open Multi-Events at Northridge, Calif., yesterday.
Wichmann scored 4,940 points for a school record in the event and broke four school records in the process.
