Rainbows crush Division III CMS
Iefke Van Belkum and Megan O'Linn each scored three goals to lead the fifth-ranked University of Hawaii water polo team to a 15-5 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
CMS, No. 6 in Division III, fell behind early as Hawaii went up 4-1 in the first quarter. The Rainbow Wahine led 8-1 by the end of the second quarter.
The 'Bows (8-6) host No. 1 USC on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Vulcans, Lions split in softball doubleheader
The Hawaii-Hilo softball team rebounded from an early 1-0 loss to pick up a 7-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader yesterday against Vanguard University in Honokaa.
Vulcans starter Leo Sing Chow struck out eight batters and walked one in the opener. But the Vulcans got just four hits off the Lions' Krystal Keltner, who got the complete-game shutout.
In the second game, the Vulcans got a grand slam from Charity Senas in the second inning. Sarah Weisskopf picked up her fourth win of the season, giving up four hits and striking out six.
College lacrosse comes to Hawaii
The third-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team will play Oregon at Kapiolani Park on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Organizers believe it will be the first college women's lacrosse match in Hawaii.
