The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the Hawaiian Islands through Thursday afternoon. A developing weather system will bring heavy rainfall and the threat of flash flooding on all the islands.
Kauai was under a flash flood warning until 11 p.m. yesterday, but additional rains were forming south of Kauai. Kuhio Highway between Princeville and Hanalei was closed at about 10 p.m. due to water on the roadway.
Some islands may get a reprieve from the rains Friday, a National Weather Service official said. However, Maui and the Big Island may remain threatened through Friday.
For the 24 hours up to 8 p.m. yesterday, Poamoho on Oahu recorded the most rainfall at 5 inches while Mount Waialeale on Kauai received 4.1 inches.
