A Sansei celebration
The original Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, in Kapalua, Maui, celebrates its 10th anniversary March 25.
Chef D.K. Kodama's restaurant at the Shops at Kapalua was the first in a chain that now includes a second Sansei in Kihei, another in Waikiki, D.K. Steak House in Waikiki and two Vino Italian Tapas & Wine Bars. Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas in Restaurant Row was also opened in partnership with Kodama.
The birthday event, from 6 to 9 p.m., will include specialties of Sansei Kapalua chef Ivan Pahk, sushi, plus items from the Vino and D.K. Steak House menus, and a premium sake bar.
Kodama will sign his cookbook, "D.K.'s Sushi Chronicles from Hawai'i: Recipes from Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar."

Beery affair
Lucy Saunders, author of an upcoming cookbook, "Grilling with Beer," hosts a Tropical Beer Dinner tomorrow at Haleiwa Joe's Haiku Gardens restaurant in Kaneohe.
The dinner will feature beers from Kona Brewing Co. and a five-course menu by Haleiwa Joe's chef Dan York, featuring dishes from the cookbook.
Each course will be paired with a different beer and will use beer as an ingredient. The menu: Potato-Wrapped Jumbo Shrimp (with Longboard Island Lager), Beer-Braised Pork Ribs (with Big Wave Golden Ale), Malt-Rubbed Beef Skewers (with Fire Rock Pale Ale) and Coconut Rice Pudding and Porter Cream Sauce (with Black Sand Porter).
Dinner is at 6 p.m. and costs $55. Call 247-6671.
Under renovation
Alan Wong's King Street restaurant closes for renovations today, promising a new menu when it reopens April 9.
The administrative office, 947-3223, will continue to sell gift certificates and take future reservations. Wong's Pineapple Room at Macy's Ala Moana will remain open.
Special events
Morton's, the Steakhouse Honolulu: An evening of chocolate treats paired with wines, port and sherry takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 24. The menu will include Morton's Chocolate Velvet Petit Fours, Hot Chocolate Cake, a chocolate fountain and truffles, all paired with Bonterra Vineyards Merlot, Dry Sack Sherry, Mariah Zinfandel and Sandeman Founders Reserve Porto.
