On the Scene
WELCOME TO CLUB DANDAKA:
Brandon Sutherlin, second from left, and Travis Rose, the male leads in "The Ravanayana," struck a pose with their female co-stars Saturday after the show played to a full house at the UH-Manoa Ernst Lab Theatre. Stephanie Kong, left, Marissa Pilger, Cameron Gage, Amanda Weaver, Caroline Berman, Elizabeth Santaniello, Carolyn Wilt and Tiana Quinn DeBell all contribute to the success of an excellent show (much of the story takes place in a film noir-style cabaret named Club Dandaka). "The Ravanayana" plays at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow. Call 956-7655.
Hawaii Opera Theatre director Karen Tiller greeted multifaceted actor Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa during the dress rehearsal of "Tosca" in the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Monday. Tagawa, low profile as always, skipped the pre-show VIP reception and slipped into the hall after the show started. "Tosca" opens tonight.
HE'S 'BROKEBACK LANCE':
Lance Rae, left, was dressed as a "gay cowboy" Sunday when he emceed the Hawaii International Film Festival's Annual "Oscar Party" fundraiser at the Pacific Club. The party was Honolulu's only Oscar Awards-sanctioned event. HIFF Executive Director Chuck Boller, fourth from left, welcomed Glenn Liu, second from left; Glenn's wife, Lynette; and Tiffany and Ron Frias to the party.
A FENDI FIRST:
Fendi Hawaii General Manager Patrick Gey, front row second from left, presented the line's first runway show in Hawaii at the 57th Annual Narcissus Fashion Show in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom Sunday. Lawrence Tseu, left, Alvin C.P. Wong and Ming Chen enjoyed the work of models of Zoe Morrison, back left, Johnelle Anderson, Courtney Arndt and Marisa Gey.
The "SMART Girls" -- Amy Alston, left, Sarah Honda and Molly Watanabe -- celebrated SMART Magazine's first anniversary Saturday at "SKYLiNE" at the Hanohano Room. Nightclub events come and go, but "SKYLiNE" was as crowded and classy as ever as the "girls" and their friends partied. Sheraton Waikiki Manager Ryan Laskey stopped by to congratulate the trio on Smart's success.
