Windward Rotary Club will roast KSSK's Michael W. Perry
KSSK radio morning-man Michael W. Perry will be honored for "Service Above Self" when the Rotary Club of Windward Oahu hosts a roast April 29 at the Mid-Pacific Country Club.
The Perry rotisserie comes hot on the heels of a roast for his morning show partner, Larry Price, who was honored by the Oahu Interscholastic Association and 1,000 attendees at the Sheraton Waikiki last week.
The event planned for Perry will be decidedly lower-key, staged by "my Windward Rotary friends who I've been avoiding for all these years," Perry laughed.
Getting Perry to agree to be singled out "was the biggest challenge," said Suzy Churchill, who with her husband, Clint, are previous recipients of the award. "He's very quiet and humble about his community volunteerism, but he's helped so many causes, people would like to thank him," she said.
The organizations Perry serves include the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, Pohai Nani Good Samaritan Kauhale, the Hawaii International Film Festival, the Bobby Benson Center and the LaniKailua Outdoor Circle.
The $100 tickets will fund college scholarships for students from Kailua. Reservations can be made at 230-8035.
Montecito shuffles paper
The Federal Communications Commission has approved some paper shuffling by KHON's new owner,
Montecito Broadcast Group LLC.
When Montecito first bought KHON and other stations in Oregon and Kansas, it was known as SJL Acquisition LLC, but it changed its name and had to let the FCC know. Now it has changed the name on the licenses for its stations in Hawaii and Oregon to Montecito Hawaii License LLC and Montecito Portland License LLC.
The licenses were regrouped to satisfy the interests of the Blackstone Group, which financed the $259 million station purchases. The Kansas deal was structured differently, so those stations are unaffected.
