Rainbow Wahine win 2 tournament softball games

Tyleen Tausaga hit two home runs and Clare Warwick hit one round-tripper to lead Hawaii to a 16-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State yesterday in the Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Valana Manuma went 4-for-4 for the Wahine. Jessica Morton pitched a five-hitter in the mercy-rule shortened five-inning romp.

Later in the day, Hawaii beat Florida Atlantic 4-1. Audrey Andrade drove in two runs and Justine Smethurst pitched a complete-game three-hitter for the Rainbow Wahine.

» Hawaii Pacific split a softball doubleheader with Concordia yesterday at Kailua High School.

The Sea Warriors lost the opener 6-2 and won the second game 1-0.

Concordia's Natalie Brown limited HPU to five hits in the opener.

In the second game, Kailua alumnus Courtney Kessell shined on her former home field by pitching a one-hit shutout, and Jennifer Baron hit an RBI double for the Sea Warriors' only run.

Sea Warriors split doubleheader with Antelopes

Hawaii Pacific split a baseball doubleheader with Grand Canyon for the second straight day yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park.

The Antelopes won the first game 5-4 in 10 innings before the Sea Warriors took the second game 4-3.

Tristan Blalock's RBI double in the top of the 10th gave Grand Canyon the opening win. In the second game, Brandon Muser pitched a complete-game four-hitter for HPU. Ryson Mauricio doubled home Jordan Mikami with the winning run in the sixth inning.

» Temple defeated Hawaii-Hilo 5-0 yesterday in Hilo.

Michael Higa hit two doubles and Matt Haasenritter added a double to lead the Vulcans' offense. The Owls' Arshwin Arjes and Rob Licata combined to pitch the shutout.

Irons advances to Quiksilver fourth round

Three-time world champ Andy Irons of Kauai surfed into the fourth round of the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast of Australia today.

Irons won his third-round head-to-head heat against David Weare. Bruce Irons, Andy's brother, lost his third-round heat, as did fellow Kauai surfer Roy Powers. Hawaii's Pancho Sullivan has yet to surf his third-round heat.
