Hawaii Children's Discovery Center held the grand opening of its "Japan & Nature: Spirits of the Seasons" exhibit yesterday with a taiko performance, bon dance demonstration and activities. The exhibit is produced by Brooklyn Children's Museum and is one of seven exhibits traveling across the nation and developed for the Freeman Foundation Asian Exhibit Initiative. The exhibit invites kids and their families to discover how nature is reflected and celebrated in Japanese children's everyday lives through hands-on activities, dramatic play and multimedia experiences. Kayla Leslie, 6, left, Reina Lipman and her twin sister, Senna Lipman, 7, showed their gyotaku prints made from actual fish that they painted on.
