Bears' Dacanay is UAA rookie of year
Former Punahou standout athlete Shanna-Lei Dacanay of Washington University (Mo.) is the rookie of the year in University Athletic Association basketball.
Dacanay, a freshman point guard for the NCAA Division III Bears, is also an honorable mention for all-conference honors.
Dacanay, who starred in basketball and softball for the Buffanblu, led the league in assists-to-turnovers ratio (2.07 to 1).
Speed and quickness clinics continue
The Hawaii Speed and Quickness clinics resume tomorrow at Klum Gym. This weekend's workouts feature former Hawaii volleyball star Victoria Prince as guest instructor.
The clinic for ages 7 to 12 is from 8:30 to 10 a.m., and the session for ages 13 and up is from 10:20 to noon. Registration is 30 minutes prior to the starting times.
After this weekend, the dates for future clinics are March 11-12, 18-19, April 1-2, 22-23, 29-30.

Iolani to hold basketball clinic for ages 6-18
Iolani boys basketball coach Mark Mugiishi and girls coach Glenn Takara headline the staff at the Iolani School Basketball Skills Clinic, March 22-24, at the school's gyms.
The cost is $95 and is open to boys and girls, ages 6-18. The clinic runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The deadline to sign up is March 13. For more information, call 943-2208.
