Sea Warriors take series finale from Boxers
Hawaii Pacific erupted for 13 hits to defeat Pacific 10-6 in a Division II baseball game at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu yesterday.
Chase Nakamura had two hits and two RBIs, including his first home run of the season, for the Sea Warriors.
HPU (9-9) won three of five against the Boxers (2-3).
Hawaii coed sailing team places sixth
The University of Hawaii coed sailing team took sixth place in the Bob Bavier Team Race yesterday at Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Rainbows defeated four of seven opponents yesterday to finish 5-9. Meredith Adams, Caitlin Hill, Bryan Lake, Becky Mabardy, Eric Oppen, Joey Pasquali and Mike Scott sailed for Hawaii.
Saint Mary's won the event with a 14-3 record.
Menlo's Lee is conference player of the year
Kepua Lee was named the California Pacific Conference women's basketball player of the year Saturday.
Lee led the Menlo Oaks to the regular-season and tournament titles. On Friday, the sophomore wing hit a baseline jumper with 3 seconds left to give Menlo a 50-48 win over Cal State East Bay in the conference tournament semifinals.
In the championship game Saturday, the Moanalua graduate scored 27 points in a 65-53 win over Holy Names.
Shannon Riley (Maryknoll '02), the Oaks' senior point guard and captain, was named to the All-Conference team.
Menlo advances to the NAIA D-II nationals in Iowa, March 8-14.
Kop golf tournament is March 23
The annual Guinea Kop Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for March 23 at Pearl Country Club.
Proceeds from the tournament will help subsidize Oahu Junior Golf Association's greens fees, scholarship program, awards and other operational costs. To enter or to sponsor the event, call the OJGA voicemail center at 952-6542 or page OJGA president Norman Asao at 525-1507.
Irish Sprint and Stride at Pearl Harbor
The 26th Irish Sprint and Stride, an event with a 10-kilometer run and a 1-mile run/walk, is scheduled for March 11.
Both races begin and end at the new Pearl Harbor Visitors Center, 7 Arizona Memorial Drive. Registration starts at 6 a.m., with the races at 7 a.m. Registration is also available at www.irishsprint.com. The entry fee ranges from $18 to $85.
