Hawaii's Affleck breaks marks in 500 free
Hawaii senior Andrew Affleck broke the meet and pool records in the 500 freestyle on the second day of Conference USA's Swimming and Diving Championship at the University of Houston.
Affleck was timed in 4 minutes, 24.77 seconds to take first. His time broke the C-USA meet record by five hundredths of a second and the pool mark by more than a second.
Senior Thomas Winkler placed first in the 50 free in 19.82.
SMU leads the competition with 361 points, followed by East Carolina (264) and Hawaii (200). The meet concludes tomorrow.

Rainbow Wahine triumph in water polo
Freshman Kelly Mason scored three goals to lead No. 5 Hawaii over No. 9 San Diego State 7-3 yesterday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo match in San Diego.
The Aztecs (3-2, 0-1 MPSF) took a 3-2 lead in the second quarter, only to have the Wahine (4-4, 2-2) score four unanswered goals.
Auburn, Brigham Young share Burns golf lead
Auburn and Brigham Young were tied for the lead heading into today's final round of the John Burns Intercollegiate golf tournament at Leilehua Golf Course.
The Tigers had the top two leaders -- Jay Moseley at 132 and Glenn Northcut at 134 -- to finish at 547, 29 under par. Hawaii's Pierre-Henri Soero shared 10th at 136, helping the Rainbow Warriors to 15th place at 572.
UH's Wichmann earns pentathlon silver
Hawaii sophomore Annett Wichmann broke the school record in the pentathlon yesterday, taking the silver medal at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho.
Wichmann scored 3,741 points, finishing first in the shot put, third in the high jump, fifth in the 60-meter hurdles and 800 run, and eighth in the long jump.
Seasiders stop Vulcans in tennis
Brigham Young-Hawaii defeated 30th-ranked Hawaii-Hilo 8-1 yesterday in men's tennis in Hilo.
Junyoung Kim, Dillon Porter, Jakub Huza and Leon So'onalole all won singles and doubles matches for the Seasiders.
