Annual advertising awards presented
Hawaii's advertising industry honored its own yesterday at a first-of-its-kind luncheon at the Renaissance Ilikai Hotel.
The awards recognizing individuals have customarily been presented at the annual Hawaii Advertising Federation Pele Awards ceremony. This year the organization decided to stage the awards and scholarship announcements in a separate, daytime ceremony to better honor the recipients.
The big award of the day, the American Advertising Federation Silver Medal Award, was presented to Phil Wood, vice chairman and chief creative officer of Starr Seigle Communications Inc.
Wood told the more than 200 audience members he considers himself a work in progress and thanked those "who have patiently enlarged my understanding of our craft."
Finalists in the four Pele Award categories for best television commercial were shown. Winners will be announced at the Pele Awards ceremony April 1.
