Central Oahu to get 99,000-square-foot Central Self Storage facility
WAIPIO GENTRY is about to get a new neighbor that is looking forward to having you bring your stuff over.
Central Self Storage will open the first of two new Hawaii facilities at 94-1355 Waipio Uka St. on March 1. Ground work is under way on the other site, at 46-004 Kawa St. in Kaneohe, at the corner of Kahuhipa Street.
The Waipio facility is 99,000 square feet, 71,000 of which will be rentable, according to Bob Dailey, partner in Central's parent company, Pegasus Group, a California corporation.
The Kaneohe Central Self Storage location will be smaller, about 69,000 square feet overall.
The resident manager's position for the Waipio facility found Kim Dueno, as opposed to the other way around, she said. Dueno called the company in response to a help-wanted ad for an assistant manager. The company had planned to transfer a manager from Arizona to run the Waipio location but those plans fell through, so when Dueno called for the assistant manager's position, she was offered the higher-level gig.
It didn't hurt that she had managed the Central Self Storage facility in Vallejo, Calif., eight years ago.
"This is my first adventure from the ground up," Dueno said, citing great support from project manager Charles Cattaneo and Regional Manager Anita Moore.
Central Self Storage is not the only self-storage business in the area. There is a Public Storage location nearby. "We're looking for some good competition from them," Dueno said. "They're good competitors."
"There is a need on the island for many more storages. I'm pretty confident we'll hold our own, if not exceed."
Pegasus Group is a family-run, California-based real estate investment trust that owns Central Self Storage, with locations in 14 states.
