Rainbow Wahine split with Southern Utah
Brandi Peiler delivered four hits and drove in three runs to lead the Hawaii softball team to an 11-6 victory over Southern Utah and a split of their doubleheader in Las Vegas. Kristi Yoshizawa had two hits and drove in four runs for Hawaii, and Courtney Baughman got the pitching win.
Southern Utah won the first game 5-4 as UH's 3-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning fell short.
Hawaii improved to 5-3 and Southern Utah fell to 1-6.
» Hawaii-Hilo won two games yesterday in the Schutt Division II Lead Off Classic yesterday in Phoenix.
Natalie Fujimoto hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to push the Vulcans past Texas A&M Kingsville 6-3.
Sarah Weisskopf got the win with three innings of relief.
The Vulcans (5-3) also beat the nation's third-ranked D-II team, Shippensburg (Pa.) 2-0, on solo homers by Haunani Haasenritter and Meghan Jost.
Leo Sing Chow pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in the shutout.
Shippensburgh is 0-1, and Texas A&M Kingsville is 4-5.
Prince, Owens at Great Aloha Run expo
Former University of Hawaii sports standouts Victoria Prince and Chad Owens will appear at the Hawaii Speed & Quickness clinics and the Great Aloha Run expo this weekend.
There will be Speed and Quickness demonstrations at the expo at Blaisdell Center from 3 to 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30 to 2:45 and 3 to 4:30 on Sunday.
The regular clinics are Saturday and Sunday at UH. The sessions for ages 7-12 are 8:30-10 a.m., and the sessions for ages 13 and up are from 10:20 a.m. to noon. Registration is 30 minutes prior to the starting times.
Prince will be at UH and Blaisdell both days; Owens is slated for UH on Saturday and Blaisdell on Sunday.
