Jack Cione's '2006 Mardi Gras Follies'
STRIKE A POSE
JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COM
Tango dancers Gaston Cena, left, Elizabeth Roccella, Mariko Lyons and Claudio Otero re-enacted a move from one of their show-stopping dance numbers in Jack Cione's "2006 Mardi Gras Follies" after the Saturday night performance at the Hawaii Theatre. Cione made full use of the spacious theater in staging the biggest-ever version of his annual community theater extravaganza. The extensive use of lip-syncing rather than singing was unfortunate, but the tango dancers were outstanding, a German-language cabaret number was another highlight and costume designer Bill Doherty's show girl costumes have never been more impressive. Doherty got lots of applause when he came out dressed as Carmen Miranda.
