Seasiders' Smylie is PacWest player of week
Brigham Young-Hawaii senior Austin Smylie was named as the Pacific West Conference's basketball player of the week after leading the Seasiders to three wins last week.
The forward from Salt Lake City averaged 28 points and 9.3 rebounds in two wins over Hawaii-Hilo and one victory over Florida Gulf Coast.
He shot .652 (30-for-46) from the field, .545 (6-for-11) from 3-point range and .720 (18-for-25) from the free-throw line. He also had five assists, two blocks, five steals and two turnovers.
Smylie has been player of the week three times previously this season.
Gymnastics returns to Honolulu
The Pacific Rim's top gymnasts return to Honolulu for the Pacific Alliance Gymnastics Championships, April 13-15.
The three-day event features artistic gymnastics at Blaisdell Arena and rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline at the Hawaii Convention Center. Tickets are expected to go on sale Saturday.
The PAC was last in Honolulu two years ago and featured Carly Patterson and Paul Hamm, both of whom went on to become Olympic all-around champions. Athletes from the U.S., Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Korea and Russia are expected to compete this year.
Tickets are $15 and $30 for artistic gymnastics, with all-session packages for $45 and $75. Tickets for rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline are $15.
