Former Punahou coach and teacher Jim Iams is returning to the Buffanblu as the head coach for girls volleyball.
Iams coached the Buffanblu boys volleyball team to four Interscholastic League of Honolulu titles and three state championships from 1976 to 1982.
After leaving Punahou, Iams was the women's head coach at Oregon State and at Georgia. His teams made eight postseason NCAA Division I appearances.
Iams' teams also had a .664 winning percentage.
In addition, he was an assistant coach with the U.S. Olympic team at the 1988 Games in Seoul. He was also a head coach for the U.S. women's team that won a silver medal at the 1994 Goodwill Games in Russsia.
"Punahou is extremely fortunate to have selected a coach with Jim's background and passion for coaching," Punahou athletic director Tom Holden said in a statement.
