LL Cool J to join crowd at Pro Bowl
IT LOOKS LIKE Pro Bowl weekend is going to be another star-studded affair.
I've already told you about the Roots and the Backstreet Boys being scheduled to perform on Feb. 9 at Pipeline Cafe and Feb. 10 at Aloha Stadium, respectively, but I also got word last week that LL Cool J, Biz Markie and Raekwon will be in town for the NFL all-star game. Kid Capri will return for another gig at Pipeline on Feb. 11 ...
IT WAS another packed house at the Blaisdell Arena on Friday for "Rumble on the Rock 8." Ross "The Boss" Ebanez and Scott Junk were the only local fighters to win their matches, but it was an entertaining night anyway ... KHON's Kanoa Leahey was in attendance, sitting a few rows away from the cage with KITV's Rob DeMello. The weekend guy from Honolulu's ABC affiliate is getting married -- Christine Yamane is the lucky girl, and the two plan to tie the knot in July of next year ... I also ran into Makani Tabura but almost didn't recognize him because he cut his hair! It had been "about a week" since the Island 98.5 jock chopped off his trademark ponytail, but he said most of the reaction has been positive. You can see his new hairdo in a couple of months, when "Rumblevision" returns to television. He'll be hosting the program ...
KEEPING IT in the family: Lanai Tabura checked in last week to give me the scoops on his recent trip to Los Angeles with co-worker Big Teeze. Lanai is working hard to help get the online music retailer Burnlounge off the ground, and reports that syndicated radio jock Rick Dees, rockers Good Charlotte and singer Mario were all at the conference he attended. Check him out at www.wildfirehawaii.com ... Another Clear Channel comrade, John James, is leaving the company. He's been hired to work at KLUC-FM in Las Vegas ... And congrats to Zana Akane Tsutakawa, who celebrated one year of monthly clothing sales at thirtyninehotel on Saturday. What's up next for the designer? While boyfriend Chuck Mitsui is in Amsterdam for work, she'll be working on a new line inspired by his cat ...
