Take a spin
Two high-energy events will raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation this weekend:
» SpinFest, a 12-hour indoor cycling marathon, will be held Friday at the Honolulu Club. Spin instructor Raul Boca (pictured) will lead the event, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. A reception will follow. Suggested donation is $20 per hour, with team sponsorships available. Call 543-3910.
» Sharon's Ride, a bike/run/walk fundraiser, takes place Jan. 29 at Kapiolani Community College. Participants may choose a 10-, 40- or 100-kilometer ride along the southeastern coast or a 5K run into Diamond Head. To register, call 528-3058.

Dining for dollars
Restaurants across Oahu will donate a part of their proceeds on March 1 to the Life Foundation through the annual fundraiser Oahu Dines.
The foundation, Hawaii's largest AIDS organization, is signing up restaurants willing to participate. The aim is to raise $25,000 to support programs for HIV-positive individuals and for prevention efforts. Last year, $10,000 was raised with the help of 18 restaurants.
Already signed this year are Boots and Kimo's, Tiki's Grill and Bar, Big City Diner, El Charro II Mexican Seafood, Chai's Island Bistro, le Guignol Restaurant, and the Wedding Café.

Wine on the menu
Wines of California's central coast will be featured in the January Wine Tasting, 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Parc Café.
Appetizers by chef Michelle Baldomero will include Gazpacho Martini, Chawanmushi, Spicy Steak Tartare Katsu, Lavender-Cured Salmon and Poached Pears.
Noel Okimoto and Dean Taba will perform.
