Kamehameha's Herring Gatorade honoree
Kamehameha's Kanani Herring has been named the 2005-06 Gatorade Hawaii Volleyball Player of the Year.
Gatorade and Scholastic Coach and Athletic Director magazine honor winners from all 50 states and Washington, D.C. All state winners become finalists for national player of the year honors.
Herring was the Star-Bulletin's state player of the year as a sophomore after leading the Warriors to a state championship this fall. She was also named state tournament MVP.

Road loss drops BYUH to .500
Brigham Young-Hawaii fell to 7-7 on the season last night with a 90-68 loss at Seattle University in NCAA Division II men's basketball action.
Bernard Seals led Seattle University with 31 points. Austin Smylie's 18 led the Seasiders and BYUH's Vaughn Schouten's 14 points were a career high.
Seattle University shot 61 percent.
BYUH comes home to play Florida Gulf Coast Monday at Laie.
Menlo's Fushikoshi player of the week
Kelci Fushikoshi, a 5-foot-7 freshman guard for the Menlo College Oaks, was named the California Pacific Conference Player of the Week yesterday.
The Lahainaluna graduate came off the bench Jan. 10 to lead all players with a career-high 17 points in a 70-24 win over California Maritime. She was 7-for-9 from the field including two 3-pointers and had eight rebounds and four assists.
Two days later against Pacific Union, Fushikoshi scored 10 points and made three 3-pointers in the game's initial five minutes. She finished with 17 points in a 69-14 victory against the Pioneers.
