Tom Selleck, with his trademark mustache and also with heavy stubble on his chin, was a guest on
Ellen DeGeneres' show on the Oxygen channel Tuesday night. They discussed and showed a film clip of Tom's new movie, "Jesse Stone: Night Passage," which plays tomorrow on KGMB at 8 p.m. He also produces the "Stone" mysteries. Tom, who looked like a strong NFL wide receiver when he starred on "Magnum" here in the 1980s, has bulked up and looks more like a big defensive end. Chanel had quite the fashionable party to let guests check out its remodeled boutiques located across from each other at Ala Moana's main mall level. Young men dressed in black lined the walkway from valet parking to the boutique. Champagne, wine and light pupu by Current Affairs were served at the Jan. 5 affair. The fine jewelry boutique is a takeoff on Coco Chanel's Paris pad, with a gold leaf and rock crystal chandelier and a deer sculpture, salesman Walter Kellar said. Three women from Italy were brought here to do the painting on rock plaster walls to give them a mother of pearl look. The wall siding in a private room is of silk. The place for people watching was the larger boutique on the mauka side, where there was much activity. Academy of Arts' Starlight Ball sells out
The Academy of Arts' social season is off to a good start as tonight's Starlight Ball is sold out. The reasonable ticket price of $75 probably had a lot to do with that. Among the ball's silent-auction items are five nights for two at a Shanghai hotel with air fare and two new luggage bags included; a visit to the "Lost" set; and a beer party from Big Aloha Brewery.
