2 events will screen for donors of marrow

Star-Bulletin staff

The Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry will seek potential donors at two events this month.

The agency will have a booth at Kapiolani Park Bandstand on Monday, celebrating the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The bone marrow drive will continue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine's Health Fair. The booth will be in the lobby of the Kakaako campus building, 651 Ilalo St.

A sample of blood will be collected by a finger stick and tested by a tissue-typing laboratory. To register, volunteers must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good general health. They need to register only once.

Those already registered are asked to update their personal information by calling the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry at 547-6154.
