A 37-year-old man died yesterday after he apparently lost control of his 2001 Yamaha motorcycle on Kaahele Street in Pearl City.
The accident happened about 8 a.m., and police said the man was likely speeding when he hit a curb and was thrown into roadside foliage.
It's unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Police said the victim was wearing a helmet. The traffic fatality is the 78th on Oahu for 2005, compared with 70 at the same time in 2004.

Suspect in abuse case held in alleged threats
Police arrested a 25-year-old man after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend's roommates Thursday night.
The two roommates had been subpoenaed to testify as witnesses in the abuse of the girlfriend, for which the suspect was arrested Nov. 20.
On Dec. 3, police said, the suspect threatened the women and told them not to testify.
Then he allegedly went to their home on Kipona Place on Thursday night and damaged one of the roommates' air conditioners.
He was later arrested for investigation of first-degree terroristic threatening, two counts of intimidating a witness and third-degree criminal property damage.
Extortion suspected in theft of mo-ped
Police arrested a 34-year-old man after he allegedly tried to extort money by holding a man's mo-ped for ransom.
The victim, 24, said the suspect stole his mo-ped Dec. 20 near Beach and Diamond Head roads.
The victim's phone number was listed on his keys, and the suspect allegedly made a number of calls to extort money for return of the mo-ped.
Police said the suspect's aunt made arrangements Wednesday for him to turn himself in.
Police recovered the mo-ped and arrested the suspect for investigation of second-degree theft and first-degree extortion.
Driver arrested after crash in stolen car
A woman crashed a car that had been reported stolen into parked vehicles in Salt Lake on Thursday while trying to elude police.
An off-duty police officer spotted the vehicle, reported stolen earlier this month, being operated by the 32-year-old suspect in the Salt Lake area at about 11:20 a.m.
Police later located the vehicle parked along Salt Lake Boulevard. As an officer tried to confront the suspect, she allegedly sped off and ended up colliding with rubbish cans, a fire hydrant and two parked vehicles.
Though officers initially lost sight of the vehicle, they later found it abandoned. They caught the suspect on foot and arrested her for auto theft.
Ammonia gas leak closes two streets

No injuries were reported yesterday. Queen Street was closed from Ward Avenue to Kamakee Street from 2:45 to 5 p.m. Kawaiahao Street was also closed, from Cummings to Kamakee streets.
