Sea Warriors drop another in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS » Rome Sanders scored 17 points to lead a balanced Florida A&M attack, and the Rattlers beat Hawaii Pacific 74-67 yesterday in the Las Vegas Holiday Classic.
Sanders shot 5-for-9 from the floor and 7-for-10 from the foul line as the Rattlers held off the Sea Warriors.
Lamar Twitty added 12 points, Glen Elliott had 11 and Jonathon Kelly scored 10 for the Rattlers (4-6), who shot 25 of 56.
Donnell Dobbins led Hawaii Pacific (1-9) with 19 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor. Finis Harwell added 12 points for the Sea Warriors, who lost despite shooting 25 of 43.
Florida A&M led 38-28 at halftime. Hawaii Pacific drew within three points with 1:37 remaining before the Rattlers outscored the Sea Warriors 9-5 to finish the game.
The Rattlers took the lead for good in the opening 6 minutes and led by as many as 11 points in the first half, when Sanders scored 10 of his 17 points.
Lajola to play Jensen in exhibition in Hawaii
Aiea's Dennis Lajola will take on former French Open doubles champion and ESPN analyst Luke Jensen to wrap up a clinic on New Year's Day at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Lajola, 16, is currently ranked No. 18 in the world among players under 18 years old and has beaten No. 1 Donald Young.
Hawaii tennis coach John Nelson will join Jensen earlier in the day to coach in clinics beginning at 11 a.m. The cost for the clinics and exhibition is $25 per person for players and $50 per person for a coaches clinic.
