OUR OPINION

He’s ho, ho, home for Christmas

THE ISSUE

Medical treatment appears to have healed heart and soul as well as invigorated Don Ho's familiar aplomb.

Medical treatment appears to have healed heart and soul as well as invigorated Don Ho's familiar aplomb.

The iconic Hawaiian entertainer, who flew to Thailand last month for a stem cell procedure to fix his ailing ticker, has returned to the islands, just in time for Christmas.

In a candid interview, Ho talked about coming to terms with aging and the realization of his mortality. Still, he maintains an optimistic outlook.

He has rediscovered the little blessings of life, like late-night walks in Waikiki. "It was beautiful," he said, "just me and the beach."

With that vignette, Ho has a message for the rest of us as we celebrate the holiday tomorrow -- to appreciate and enjoy what we have.

Welcome home, Don Ho.
