Your party may be casual, but that doesn't mean the dessert can't arrive in style. The strawberry is an elegant fruit to begin with, but dress 'em up in a chocolate tux and they'll set a room abuzz with delight.

It's a busy time of year, but if you talk sweetly (and sound desperate), Kelvin Ro of Diamond Head Market & Grill, 3158 Monsarrat at Campbell Avenue, may take pity on you and fill your holiday order. Otherwise, just wait 'til your next fêtê. A chocolate dip and paint job costs about $1.75 to $2.75 per berry depending on its size, or $1.25 to $2.25 each for white chocolate drizzle on dark, or dark on white. He'll also be offering stollen at about $20 for two pounds. Call 732-0077 for more information.

Home tabletop versions of the chocolate fountain also make it possible for party guests to do the dipping. But before you go out and buy one (about $40 at Costco), remember cleanup's a bitch ... or delicious, if you plan to lick the machine clean.

After the excitement of opening presents with Grandma and Grandpa, my family bundles up and heads out to the Ice Palace, the closest we can get to a White Christmas in Honolulu. On this particular holiday, the rink is luxuriously uncrowded and the Christmas ambience is impeccable. There's festive music, and the usual disco ball lights are replaced by blue snowflake-patterened ones that spin prettily all over the ice. Add hot chocolate and good friends, and it's the stuff lifelong memories are made of.

There's a dizzying schedule of holiday movie releases this week, highlighted by Friday's opening of the opulent-looking and hotly debated "Memoirs of a Geisha." See Pages 6 and 7 for our Nadine Kam's level-headed review and a sampling of what other film critics took out of the Rob Marshall-directed flick. Comedies look to be your best bets this weekend, starting with what could be the season's guilty pleasure, "The Ringer," starring Johnny Knoxville faking a disability to put a fix on the Special Olympics. Also the Christmas Day debut of "The Producers." The 1968 original is one of my all-time favorite movies, but this version based on the hit Broadway show will do just as fine, thank you.
