GINGERBREAD DREAMS
Culinary students create a sweet landscape
CINDY ELLEN RUSSELL / CRUSSELL@STARBULLETIN.COM
Miyuki Ueno and her son Takehiro, 2, stopped yesterday to admire a gingerbread village constructed by Kapiolani Community College culinary students in the lobby of the Pacific Beach Hotel. Six students created the sweet landscape, which includes Hawaiian sights such as Aloha Tower, a view of Waikiki and Diamond Head, as well as traditional winter scenes of a chapel and a train working its way through a street of candy-studded buildings. The work represents Hawaii's most promising culinary talent, members of the Junior American Culinary Federation Team, who will represent the state in the ACF Western Regional competition in February. The village will be on display at the hotel through Monday.
