Former Rainbow named Azusa Pacific coach
Former Hawaii football player Victor Santa Cruz was named head football coach at Azusa Pacific University yesterday.
As defensive coordinator in 2004, Santa Cruz's unit led the nation in total yards, rushing yards, sacks (55), and Azusa Pacific advanced to the NAIA semifinals.
The creator and director of the "Camp of Champs" program, Santa Cruz was a linebacker at UH from 1991-94. He graduated from Hawaii in 1995.
HPU's Peciukas PacWest player of the week
Hawaii Pacific center Audrius Peciukas was named Pacific West Conference men's basketball player of the week yesterday. The 6-9 senior from Joniskis, Lithuania, had double-doubles in three of four games last week, averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds for the week.
UH offers deals for hoops doubleheader
The Stan Sheriff Center will not be cleared between men's and women's Hawaii basketball games Saturday, meaning the Rainbow Wahine half of the doubleheader will be free to fans who bought tickets to the Rainbows' 1:05 p.m. game against Utah State.
In addition, fans who choose to step out will receive free admission back in to the Wahine's 4:30 game against Campbell with their ticket stub from the men's game.
Fans buying advance tickets at the Stan Sheriff Center box office can receive 50 percent off the purchase of an upper-level seat by donating a toy to "Toys For Tots," one discounted ticket per toy. The SSC box office is open through tomorrow, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
