Chanel opens video exhibit
A video wallpaper installation by French artist Marie Maillard will greet visitors to the Waikiki Chanel boutique beginning tomorrow.
Maillard was commissioned by Chanel to create the installation, "Elia 0505," inspired by the installation created for The Metropolitan Museum of Art for its Costume Institute Chanel exhibition in May.
Visitors viewing Chanel's creations through the decades walked through a darkened maze of ethereal floating images of Chanel's iconic camellia, the favorite flower of design house founder Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel.
The camellia continues to grace Chanel's costume and fine jewelry, watches, ready-to-wear and haute couture, accessories and shoes.
The exhibition will continue during boutique hours through Jan. 9 at 2116 Kalakaua Ave. Valet parking is available on Kalaimoku Street, next to Nike Town. For more information, call 923-3555.
