While you're planning your holiday menu, how about adding a touch of gold? And not just in decor.
For cooks in a pinch, a sprinkle of edible gold dust is an effortless way to make holiday desserts, cocktails and appetizers sparkle.
EdibleGold.com, a San Francisco-based company, offers 23-karat edible gold leaf kits, edible gold leaf sheets and packages for the holidays.
A $29.99 kit includes a shaker, 1 gram of edible gold flakes or edible gold dust and "Holiday Recipes," a recipe card of cocktails and dessert ideas using edible gold leaf. Each kit has enough gold for 20 cocktails or 10 cocktails plus some desserts or side dishes.
The edible gold does not alter the flavor of food or beverages and is certified as parve (kosher).
To order, visit ediblegold.com and shine on.

Gift-buying tip: Head for the Nuuanu YMCA Saturday and stock up on homemade cookies. They'll be selling 'em by the pound. Pick up a wide selection and with a little clever repackaging, pass them off as your own home-baked.
Won't you seem thoughtful and clever?
The Christmas Cookies and Treats Sale is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cookies will sell for $6 per pound, to benefit YMCA programs. Call 536-3556.

There are three more movies I want to watch this year, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe," "King Kong" and "Memoirs of a Geisha." "Narnia" opens Friday so hopefully, between Christmas shopping and Christmas get-togethers, I'll be able to relax while watching the film. Then, "King Kong" opens Wednesday so after an evening of shopping I'll probably catch that show. Or, if I'm lucky, I'll have finished all my Christmas shopping and can just enjoy watching that big ape on screen.
