Whiting leads Silverswords past Wolves
Tournament MVP Zack Whiting had 15 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds to lead Chaminade past Western Oregon 85-73 last night in the Western Oregon Classic in Monmouth, Ore.
Chaminade's (2-4) Chris Reaves had 19 points and was named to the all-tournament team. There was no tournament champion since all four teams finished with 1-1 records.
» St. Edward's used a 21-6 run in the game's final 6 minutes to erase an eight-point deficit to beat Hawaii-Hilo basketball team 87-80 yesterday in Austin, Texas.
Justin Griffin led the Vulcans (4-3) with 30 points and Justin Dobson added 20.
» Tony Binetti scored 19 points to lead No. 11 Seattle Pacific past Hawaii Pacific 69-54 in Seattle last night.
Donnell Dobbins and Adam Reinking had 11 points each for HPU (0-4).
Schlanger wins another in Texas
University of Hawaii swimmer Melanie Schlanger won her second event on the last day of Texas Invitational with a time of 47.94 in the 100-meter free yesterday in Austin, Texas.
Nicole Mackey was third in the 200 back and Mia Broden was fourth in the 200 fly as UH finished sixth with 260 points.
The UH men finished seventh with 159 as Thomas Winkler was third in the 200 back and Chad Thomsen fifth in the 200 breast.
UH diving and football coaches at QB Club
University of Hawaii football coaches Dan Morrison and George Lumpkin and UH diving coach Mike Brown will be speaking at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon.
Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Pagoda Hotel Ballroom with the program starting at noon. The public is invited.
