Aid for AIDS
Isle events bring attention to the disease on World AIDS Day
People prayed for loved ones who have died of HIV/AIDS during a candlelight vigil held yesterday evening at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. The vigil was part of World AIDS Day, which was originally declared by the World Health Organization on Dec. 1, 1998, as a day to remember, honor and address those who have died because of or live with HIV or AIDS. |
Fernando Dehoyos brought some levity to the seriousness of World AIDS Day yesterday by blowing bubbles along Fort Street Mall, where various AIDS-related organizations had set up tents. Dehoyos works for Save the FoodBasket, a grass-roots organization that provides food, basic essentials and support for people with HIV/AIDS in Honolulu. People interested in the organization's services or who would like to volunteer or donate can call 236-3126. |
