Higa moves to Jazz Minds
AFTER stints at Indigo and The Living Room, trumpet player
DeShannon Higa is moving his weekly "gr00ve.imProV.arTiSts" to a new venue.
Starting tonight, Higa will be joined by Jerome James, Maria Remos and Randy Wheeler at Jazz Minds Art and Cafe on Kapiolani Blvd. He'll also host a weekly open mic night, called "Raw and Wired," every Tuesday from 8 to midnight at the venue.

NOW IN its third year, Steve "Kealoha" Wong's "First Thursdays" slam poetry competition rolls on at the Hawaiian Hut.
Tonight's competition begins at 8:30 p.m. and also features performances by reigning national poetry slam individual champion Anis Mojgani and mainland poet Alex Charalambides. The top two local poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam finals next year. Five bucks gets you in; call 387-9664 ...
ANOTHER weekly gets its start tonight at Venus Lounge. The Diamond Dust Crew presents "Three Wishes," a relaxed alternative to your typical Thursday club options. Doors open at 10 p.m. and there's no cover charge to worry about ... The Hard Rock Cafe has pulled the plug on "Rockstar Fridays" after switching from an 18-and-over party to a 21-and-over one. Look for promoters VJ Entertainment and Stone Groove Family to resurface somewhere else soon, while Hard Rock rebounds with a new Tuesday weekly in conjunction with 102.7 Da Bomb ... Congrats to Hanson Nguyen, who moves from promoting Fridays at The O Lounge to general manager of the club. The Friday weekly also has a new theme -- it's now a techno party called "XFACTOR" ...

NextDoor and thirtyninehotel host the two-day event, which takes place tomorrow and Saturday. Along with local artists selling their wares, there will be a fashion show tomorrow at 10 p.m. and Saturday at noon. The Sisters in Sound and Canada's Mama Mische will provide the entertainment during an afterparty on Saturday night.
Among the designers who will be on hand: Akane Clothing, Oaks Hawaii, Fiume, Urban Nomad, Sex Cult and Sola Sola ...
AND I finally have all the details for upcoming concerts by Hawthorne Heights and Pato Banton.
Both shows are being presented by BAMP Project and Star 101.9 as part of the "Vans Triple Crown of Surf Concert Series." Local favorites No Bare Feet will open for Hawthorne Heights on Dec. 15, with the Mad Caddies getting things started the next day before Pato Banton performs.
General admission tickets for both all-ages shows cost $25, with $50 VIP tickets also available. Call 296-1019 ...
