ArtZone holds Nuuanu exhibit
EVER SEEN a house with front doors wide enough to drive a limousine through? I have, and it belongs to
K.K. Kaminaka.
The Nuuanu resident opened his Pali Highway home/art gallery, ArtZone, to a select group last week. Not only is the entryway here big enough for a limo, it also serves as a focal point for all the art on display.
Besides beautiful panaoramic beach shots by Mark Bell, blown up big enough to cover entire walls, I was also impressed by the sensual photography of Jean Jacques. Jamon Chai was there, working on a painting while Al Mahuka lounged with Karlii Tario as a "live art" exhibit in an indoor jacuzzi.
Among those spotted at the party: Tom Moffatt, Carole Kai, Melveen Leed, Frank B. Shaner, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Lincoln Jacobe, Kaleo Pilanca, Jody Ballesteros, Yemun Chung and Gloria Chung. Promoter Alan Arato greeted guests at the door ...
WHY AM I not surprised? Despite warnings that the recent "Two" party at Palomino would be a one-time only affair, it seems almost certain to continue as a monthly. Maybe Flash Hansen and Matty Hazelgrove were playing it safe, but when management is talking about the next party (while the first is still taking place) and Smart Magazine had already gone to press with its latest issue calling "Two" a monthly event, you know it's a done deal ... Sure, it's big that Tito Ortiz is returning to the UFC for a three-fight deal and the chance to coach next season's "Ultimate Fighter" against rival Ken Shamrock. But I got way more excited when I saw Big Island fighter B.J. Penn during Saturday's "UFC 56" pay-per-view, as Dana White announced his return to the octagon ... Japan is becoming a favorite stop for local DJs. After hosting DJ Sancon at the Wave Waikiki earlier this month, DJ Epic One returns the favor this week with a return trip. Fellow Wave resident Shawn G gigged there in August, and Hot 93.9's K-Smooth visits this week with mid-day diva Pomai ...
WITH Thanksgiving this week, there are a few more choices tomorrow. DJ Paul Brandon celebrates the release of his newest mix CD at Pipeline Cafe after the Coheed and Cambria concert ... The Honolulu Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce hosts "Inferno" at The O Lounge, with entertainment by Jook Joint and Marlene Baldueza serving as emcee ... Vertical Junkies and Artist Groove Network join forces to present "Pilgrims and Indians" at the Ocean Club ... And Thanksgiving night brings another installment of "Big Will Presents: The Underground." DJs Akio, Illis, Bite, Quick Silva, PSI, RacerX and Chronkite will spin ...
