JAPANESE STYLE

Keslyn Higa, 3, joins her grandmother Meredith, left, and mother, Susana, in donning traditional Japanese attire at the University of Hawaii Lab School. The school has benefited for 20 years from the Education Laboratory School Kimono Project USA, run by Jean Sakihara, who dresses up girls, ages 3 and 7, and boys, age 5, in Japanese outfits to celebrate their birthdays. She also encourages mothers and fathers to dress up, providing the outfits, and encourages families to bring their own cameras to record the occasion, known as Shichi Go San.

Five-year-old Colin Rabanal dug in to his cotton candy yesterday morning while watching Steve-O the Clown at the grand-opening festivities of the Kunia Shopping Center. Numerous shops are now open in the new shopping complex, which fronts the Times Supermarket and Wal-Mart across Kupuna Loop in Royal Kunia.

Reynald Jubilado, 14, center, carried priceless cargo as he gave his younger brothers Christian, 11, back, and Ian, 9, a lift on King Street in Kalihi yesterday morning. The Alewa Heights trio was on their way to pick up the younger boys' bicycles at a friend's house.
