Kauai on horseback
Aloha Horseback Rides has opened its stable doors on Kauai, offering morning, afternoon and sunset rides on 200 acres of private land on Kauai's South Shore. Through Dec. 15 the company is offering 10 percent off on Sunday rides.
With a focus on personalized attention, the company offers one guide for every five riders. Groups are generally no larger than seven riders. There is no minimum number of riders required, so the ride goes on even if only one person signs up.
The experienced guides share the history of Kauai's South Shore and point out native plants or those that are significant to Hawaiian culture.
Riders must be at least 8 years old, and maximum weight for a rider is 230 pounds. Rides include beverages and snacks.
Morning rides take place 9 a.m. to noon, and afternoon rides run from 2 to 5 p.m. a late-afternoon Sunset Ride is a favorite with honeymooners. All three rides are priced at $100 per person (plus tax).
A shorter Valley Ride into the tropical rain forest (60 to 90 minutes) is available upon request, at $75 plus tax. Inquire about custom private rides.
The stables are located just off Poipu Road in the heart of Koloa Town. Call 808-742-2010, e-mail riding@alohahorsebackriding.com or visit www.alohahorsebackriding.com.
